Beginning as n ine students play– ing lac rosse on the front lawn in the fall of 2000, the g roup evolved into an official club this fa ll. "When we began playing on the front lawn three yea rs ago, we did not dream that it would grow to this size," junio r Ma rk Bates said. After formin g a charte r and con– stitution, the group ga ined the sup– port of sponsors, Dr. Jim Carr, ex– ecuti ve vice president, and J6hn Stone, information center lab sup– port specialist. John Webe r, lib ra ry systems manager, served as head coach . Car r had neve r played lacrosse, but he agreed to help the students . Stone acted as the trave li ng spon– sor. " Jwas eager to help the students pursue their interest," Carr said. The lacrosse team, beginning p lay in the spring, became the first o rgan ized collegi ate lacrosse orga– n iza tion in the state of Arkansas The team joined the Grea t e rs Conference in the fall and ga n competing March 2. It ho:ste, fo ur home games and traveled seve ral away games. "We ha ve 23 on the cl ub and we intend to travel w ith one that can make it to the games, Bates said .
