• senIor class officers pursue service paths Members of the senior class elected President Natalie Smeltzer, Secretary/Treasurer Josiah Smelser and Vice President Elizabeth Hendrix to lead them in their final year at Harding. The members of the senior class looked beyond their current steps of classes and club functions to steps of service at Harding and in Searcy. Wanting to involve himself on campus, Smelser ran for a class office to direct the seniors' path of service. "It is such an honor and privilege to be elected by all of my peers and serve my class in a huge way on campus," Smelser said. "We want to serve the seniors at Harding and the community in Searcy." Smelser, along with Smeltzer and Hendrix, volunteered for Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 25-26, the Day of Outreach , March 5, and the Osoorne barbecue, Oct. 5. "During the annual Osborne barbecue, we set up the inflatable toys for the children to enjoy," Hendrix said. "We worked together to entertain the children throughout the day." Volunteering in projects on campus and off campus, the class officers led by example. They realized the importance of working together as they served others. "I am a project contact for the Day of Outreach ," Hendrix . said . "We want to encourage the seniors to participate and to reach out into the community." Working together, the senior class officers provided ex– amples for other seniors. They hoped their steps of service would continue in the future after graduating from school. "We could have never fulfilled our individual positions without the help of each other," Smeltzer said. "Our positions have taught us the importance of service."
