Runners storm their way to Ashland Snow and sub-freezing temperatures set the scene for the cross country NCAA Division II National ChampionshipMeet inAshland,Ohio, Nov. 23. Despite the cold wea ther, the men's cross country team tied for 14!h. The tie marked Harding's third consecutive top 20 national finish. "The team did well and did whatthey needed to inorder to win," coach Steve Guymon said. Harding's fastest finisher was sophomore Jacob Rotich, coming in 28th in the 10K event. This finish earned him his second AU-Ameri– can honor. Sophomore Reed Fisher placed 43'" despite battling sickness and junior Madej Mjereczko took the 70~ spot. The men's cross coun try team d inched its thirdstra ight RegionalChampionship inHWlts– ville, Ala., Nov.9.Rotich finished second.Fisher took filth and junior Scott Wietecha finished in the ninth spot. The team won five of the seven regular season meets. The runners' top finish at Hunts– ville allowed the team to advance to nationals. The women's cross country team caprnred its third straight Gulf South Conference Cham– pionshi p, Nov. 2, in HlUltsville, Ala. "M anyathletes like to jog and warm up, but not me; I need to relax. She was named the NCAA Division II South Region Athlete of the Year. Cherobon also placed 15th in the national meet, Nov. 23, inAshland, Ohio. Cherobon, along w ith senior Hann a Haavikko, earned All-American and All-Re– gion awards. Sophomore Helen Singoei also received All-Regional recognition. " I ran my best crossCOWltry time I have ever had, so the season was good," Haavikko said. "We had the bestgirl's team we haveever had." The women's cross COWltry team won three of the eight meets they competed in this year. Guymon alsocontributed to theteam'sstrong season.Guymon, in his Hrst year of coaching at . Harding, was named Men'sSouth RegionCoach of the Yea r. While p leased with the team's success, Guymon and team members said the team had a higher level of potential. "I know we have the talent on this team to bring some real success," Fisher said .
