- - gas one Social clubs combine forces for memorable night Whether they sponsored horse– back riding, a scavenger hunt or din· ner and a movie, social clubs offered something for most members to en– joy this year. Each semester, social clubs planned fui-tctions for members and their dates to attend. Fall functions often included out– door activities and games, as well as Christmas functions. Spring func– tions were sometimes theme dinners and formals. Club activities directors searched for new and different ideas when planning functions. In the search for excitement this year, activities directors for Ko Jo Kai and Ju Go Ju planned a com– bined function. Juniors Morgan Setzler and Lauren Smelser, activities directors for Ju Go Ju, came up with the idea early in the fall semester. "Because everyone loves flag foot– ball and football season is a fun time, we thought everyone would be in the mood to play some football," Setzler said. The women of Ko Jo Kai and Ju Go Ju invited their dates to join them for a game of flag football at the intramural fields Oct. 4. More than 200 people got together to show off their football skills. "With both guys and girls on a team, it made it a little harder to play, but itwas different and it was fun." - Senior Sara Beth Sanders "They divided us into teams of eight to 10 guys and girls," senior Sara Beth Sanders, vice president of Ju Go Ju, said. "With both guys and girls on a team, it made it a little harder to play, but it was different and it was fun." Before the function, members chose the teams on which they wanted to play. The women ofKo Jo Kai and their dates faced off against the women of Ju Go Ju and their dates. "It was competitive, but it was still a lot of fun," Sanders said. At the end of the evening, one of the Ko Jo Kai teams captured the win. "The great thing about this func– tionwas that everyone walked away a winner," sophomore Robert Hatfield said. For its Christmas function, Delta Chi Delta purchased toys for the Friends Program and went to Little Rock's Chucky Cheese restaurant/- Chi Omega Pi added a different spin to the traditional fall hayride by planning a trip to a corn maze in Newport, Ark. However, due to rain, plans had to be changed at the last minute. Members of Chi Omega Pi and their dates ended up visiting a haunted cathedral in LIttle Rock. Although planned at the last minute, senior Gilly Jones said ev– eryone was cooperative with the switch. "I think they were disappointed when they heard [the corn maze func– tion was canceled]," Jones sa id. "They were okay with it once they heard what we were going to do instead . They had a really good atti– tude about it." Jones said she enjoyed the experi– ence of being the activities director, although it was challenging. "I gained a lot of respect for the peoplewho have planned functions," she said. ''It is a good feeling to do something that 100 people or more will be able to enjoy." - Sara Rabon
