(Photo by Jeff Montgomery) SA President dares student body to step into faith During his convocation speech, Student As– sociation President Zac Lambrecht had less than two minutes to get the attention of stu– dents, and he did it with a dare. Lambrecht got the idea from the book 1Dare You! by William H. Danforth. "I dare you, whoever you are, to share with others the fruits of your daring. Catch a pas– sion for helping others, and a richer life will come back to you," Danforth said. "You have a four-fold life to live: a body, a brain, a heart and a soul. These are your living tools. To use and develop them is not a task. It is a golden oppor– tunity." The golden opportunity that Danforth dis– cussed in his book is exactly what Lambrecht envisioned for Harding. Lambrecht wanted the student body to leave Harding better than it was before their arrivaL He wanted the student body to see the chal– lenge and meet it head on. "I dare you to be a pillar for God. Let's see what a difference we can make in this little place called Harding University. I dare you, Lambrecht said. "God expects you to be better than you are, but it is up to each of us to make that choice." Some students decided to take Lambrecht up on his dare. "I want to help make a difference in the com– munity by w9rking with my social club and with JOY club," junior Lacey Borger said. Lambrecht said that having faith like Abraham or perseverance like Job is difficult, but it is not impossible. He wanted the student body to learn what it means to have that same type of character. The SA made changes on campus to help the student body stay focused on God, such as pray– ing daily for prayer requests, starting special in– terest groups and encouraging diversity w ithin the SA itself. "If there is something that we [the student body] want to do, and it is healthy and will glorify God, then the faculty will do everything they can to help us get it done," Lambrecht said. -Jenna LaCaze Chelsea Simpson-Ada, Okla.
