Songs like "Father God" were often heard at weekly devotionals around campus as well as in chapel. "Father God," to many students at Harding, was just another devotional song that was occasionally heard in chapel. ButtothemembersofTheatron and a few others, this song was lifechanging. Harding's Institute for Church and FamilysentalO-memberstudentteam into the United States on a summer mission trip. One of the team's stops was Seattle, Wash. in early July, where youth minister Matt Tibbles started leading the song during a devotional. As soon as senior Jason Ashlock, student director of Theatron, heard the song, he said he had to hear it again. So the group at the devotional sang these words again: "Father God, just for today, help me walk Your narrow way. Help me stand when I might fall; give me the strength to hear Your call. May my steps beworship, may my thoughts be praise; may my words bring honor to Your name." "This song became our motto for the summer," Ashlock said. "Everywhere we went we tried to make our steps worship and our thoughts praise." TO HARDING STUDENTS Sophomore Theatron member Sam Peters said, "Every day this s'..ll1llller was a new possibility to live for God." When the group returned to Harding this fall, sophomore Jonathan Storment led the song at the Student Impact energy group leaders' opening dinner. From there it was introduced to the freshmen during Impact and to the student body during the first week of classes. "To think that it started with a little youth group in Seattle, Wash., and now so many voices were singing this song to God, is awesome," Peters said. The simplicity of the words made this song so easy to relate to, Ashlock said. "Around Harding, we talk spiritually in big language," he said. "We forget it simply begins with taking each little thing and making it worship. "IfyouwanttobecompletelyGod's, it'sonestepata time. 'Father God' cuts right through worship, and it makes me remember that my own personal worship to God is my lifestyle. As I type a paper, as I read a book and as I play basketball, it's worship." -Renee Lewis Megan Rees----Hong Kong. Psychology I Vocational Ministry. Psi Chi. Circle K. Campaigns. Dean's List.
