., , I ·,.1 ,, Members draw closer to God and each other Thoughts of friends and sports immediately come to mind when students think of social clubs. But just as important as those life-long friendships are the spiritual benefits club members receive from fellowshiping with their brothers and sisters in Christ. Men's social club Pi Kappa Epsilon saw growth in its Wednesday night Bible study. "I look forward to Pike church every week," junior Stephen Osborne said. "It gives me a chance to worship with all of my friends." Other clubs started new spiritual traditions in hopes of boosting club morale. Titans and Ko Jo Kai social clubs united for a combined period of devotion and prayer. Junior Dan Henderson, devotional director for Titans, said that the worship period allowed the members to spend time spiritually with their closest friends. "The spiritual aspect of a club is so important because those club members are your closest friends-the people you tum to when you're tired or dealing with the pressures of life," Henderson said. Many students meet with other club members in prayer groups during the week. Senior Andrea Hickmon looked forward to the home Bible study she held for her close friends in Ko Jo Kai. Senior Leah Beth Tomlinson and sophomores Lindsay Leupold and Lindsay Whitehead participate in a group activity at the Omega Lambda Chi fall retreat. The club organized the event in an effort to get to know each other on a deeper spiritual level. "As club members, we would have so much fun being on the same team in sports and going to meetings together," Hickmon said. "But on Tuesday night, I was able to get to know them on a spiritual level. We "I wasable togetto know [mgprayergroup] on a spirituallevel We couldopen ourhearts and talk about our struggles and our daily spiritual walk." could open our hearts and talk about our struggles and our daily spiritual walk." Devotional directors faced a few challenges while hying to accomplish those goals. Henderson said that at first it was difficult to get the guys motivated to get involved, but groups were formed successfully. "Another challenge I faced was that there was no guidelines or outline for my position," Henderson said. "But I knew that I wanted the focus to be getting to know each other as brothers in Christ and hold each other accountable." - Andrea Hickmon, senior Junior Marcie Parrott volunteers her time to a Zeta Rho and TNT joint service project.
