However, another important group of people is needed in order for clubs to function - sponsors. Many club sponsors have previously been members in the club. These sponsors have a deep loyalty to their club, and many times they feel as though they are still in the club, with just a little more responsibility. Dr. Mike James, chairman of the department of communication, was a member of Chi Sigma Alpha from 19691973 and has been a sponsor of his former club since 1993. James fills his role as a sponsor by attending club meetings and activities, approving financial matters and giving advice to officers. "Our motto has always been 'One through brotherhood,'" James said. "We try to maintain a spiritual nature." Jeanne Castleberry, a sponsor for Delta Gamma Rho, began serving as a sponsor this year. Castleberry was a member of Delta Gamma Rho from 1992-1996. She believes her role as a sponsor is to be a good example and to have an open ear toward the members. Castleberry said Delta Gamma Rho is changing for the better as a club. "I feel like this year a lot of girls are more spiritually minded. They are striving to grow closer to God as a club. I also feel that they are achieving this," Castleberry ;aid. "This goes along with our club motto a Sponsors ~~-------------S~o-c~i~al~C'lu'b-s 'Linked in unity and sisterhood.'" She also said induction week has changed for the better. "The induction process has brought members and inductees closer together," Castleberry said. "I like that everyone does stuff together, not just the inductees." One ofTNT sponsor Jim Miller's favorite activities is the Fall Stag. The members head out to Camp Tahkodah for some male bonding. "The fall stag is a great time for the guys to get together and rebuild their relationships before pledge week," Miller said. Miller became a sponsor for TNT this year. He was a member from 1993-1997 and said most things have not changed. "People change, but not the club as a whole," Miller said. He said that the traditions, goals and attitudes are the same and that TNT members still stand for being godly men. "We have a lot of good male leaders," Miller said. "I hope it always stays that way." Miller believes his responsibility is to be an example to the guys. He has great memories from TNT. "TNT helped make me the person I am today," Miller said. " It helped me love Harding. I want the members today to feel the same way." Sponsors sometimes have a thankless job, but without them clubs would not exist. - Jody Knight
