Building friendships for lifetiIne The start of a new school year at Harding signifies change. New students, new classes, new friends and new experiences. The social club induction process was a new experience for many students, with the culmination of the process in commitment week. Before commitment week, students participated in open house, three weeks ofmixers and visitation, after which clubs invited students to join them by being active in commitment week. Commitment week involved members and inductees not only getting to know each other, but also showing pride in the club. The inductees wore club colors, carried notebooks and learned cheers to show their club pride. Through the commitment process, inductees and members were faced with new situations. The members were leaders in their club, not only to underclassmen, but also older students looking to them for guidance and direction. These leadership positions allowed students to discover a new perspective of themselves and the club. After induction week, the social club had a full calendar of events for new members including functions, service projects, get-togethers and prayer groups. This year the face ofsocial clubs changed with the formation of the new men's club, Kappa Ganuna Beta, and the disbandment of a women's club, Sigma Phi Mu. As the face of the clubs changed, the inner aspect of the social clubs also changed. The members of the clubs strove to be mentors, friends, sisters or brothers and, most importantly, servants of God. The friendships formed in these clubs will last a lifetime. The challenges met this year have strengthened and helped prepare members to conquer future challenges. And through all of this, members gained a glimpse of themselves and others as they worked to discover a new perspective. - Myca Haynes, social clubs editor Division 8 7'-'-7=T:=:T--.- - - - - - -219 Social Clubs
