Many of the big-name basketball programs have developed such large, devoted followings of wild and wacky fans that they have thei r own nickname. This year, with the renovation of Rhodes Memorial Field House, Harding's "Rhodes Rowdies" joined in enthusiastic support for their team. When the Rhodes Field House opened its doors for the first time after having gone through a complete make-over, it also opened a new era of Bison basketball. Coach Jeff Morgan said, "1 can't say enough about the fans. The student body provided so much support and creativeness. This has been one of the most eXCiting seasons that I have ever been a part of. " Sophomore Levern Floyd said, "There 's no doubt about it, we definitely have the best fans. " Senior Carlton Bryant said, "In the old gym, you could hear a pin orop, but now the crowd is louder and more alive than ever, " Early in the season, the Bisons played several games on the road. "I think it was a great year for us. I was real proud of the guys. We had our backs against the wall toward the beginning of the season with so many, away games, but they stepped up and won some very important games in February," Morgan said. For the first time in history, the Bisons had a winning record for four seasons in a row. "I am really happy for these seniors. They have a record to hang their hats on, "Morgan said, reflecting on the team's four years of play. The Bisons had seven seniors this year who were a vital part of the team. Senior J.R. Duke said, "We started off real well and were excited. We had a few ups and downs toward the end. That's when we knew we had to get it together to make a run for the conference title. \Y/e came lip short at the end, but we had a fun season. " Morgan said ,"All of the games were real close. We ended up fourth in our division, missing getting to the tournamem by one game. We are in the second toughest conference in the country in NCAA Division II. " While several key players who graduated are being replaced next season, Duke said he feels that Morgan and the rest of the team will put an extremely competitive team on the court again next year. "The conference is always going to be a tough one," Duke said. "The guys who are left will provide leadership and mental toughness for next year's team. This is a conference Coach Morgan knows well. He has not only coached in it before, but he has played in it as well." Bryant said, "Coach Morgan is a good coach. He searches for talented players and, at the same time,he tries to make Harding a better place. " - Jeremy Schopper Basketball.
