SERVICE AWARD Delta Chi Delta men honored for contributing time" money -.;... Traditionally, the Petit jean honors one social club with an awa rd that recognize s the club's Christian spirit and role in service. This year, the Petit jean Service Award was given to the men of Delta Chi Delta. During the year, Delta Chi Delta was involved in numerous projects that benefited, not themselves, but the world around them. "This year, OUf goal was to do at least two service projects per mo nth ," Pres ident Matt Tibbles said. Rake-n-Run was one project organized by the men of De lta Ch i De lta. In conjunction with the Student Association, members of the club and many additional students spent one Saturday afternoon raking the ya rds of Searcy citizens. "All of the people whose yards we raked were so appreciative. \VIe were doing it as a favor for them, but they were so kind to us in return, " sophomore Mark McMasters said. Another activity in which they were invo lved was "Jesus and Me" G.A.M.), a Christian music festival. "At ].A.M., we worked all day setting up the stage, running the games, and cleaning up ," senior Mark Cross said. An annual service tr;tdition ofthe club involved its Christmas party. Every year, when members and their dates come to have their picture taken, they are given the name and age of a needy child from the area. Then, before going to the party, the couples purchase a gift for the child and use it as their ticket to the party. "My date and I had a 5year-old boy," junior Tim Pell said. "It was fun to buy something that I enjoyed when I was young." \X1hether it was raiSing money, chopping wood, supporting miSSionaries, or raking leaves, the men of Delta Chi Delta put others before themselves, exhibiting the spirit of Christ and of brotherhood. - Kathryn George DID YOU KNOW? 1998 marks the sixth consecutive year the Petit Jean has honored a social club with its Service Award. The clubs are ranked by a panel of impartial judges.
