CHRISTIAN SERVANTS Seniors Cloer andSmith win 1998 Regina Spirit Award As in years past, Regina social club honored a male and fema le Harding student with the ir Spirit Award th is year. The club nominated seniors who exemplified a Christian lifestyle, and all H arding seniors took a moment in chapel to vote for the senior they thought should receiv~ the award. This year's recipients were Teresa Cloer and Jeremy Smith. They were presented their award in chapel on Friday, January 30. Majoring in child development and vocat ional m inistry, Cloer was involved in the JOY Club, the Inner Ciry Carnival and the Family and Consumer Science Student Section.She planned on leaving her long-time home in Searcy to attend graduate school in Texas. She said hearing "how clea rl y the gospel was preached and how it put everyone into focus" was a Harding experience she would never forget . "Getting to see God working in the lives of Christians around me had a great impact," she said . Sm ith , a n a t ive of Redlands , Calif., cited his frie nds as t he b iggest influence on him during his time at Hard ing. "My fiancee and my roommate have had a big impact on me," he said. "I'm grateful that I have been surrounded by such great people here." As a psychology and Spanish ma jor, Smith was able to go on campaigns to Jama ica, Venezuela and Kenya. He said Dr. Bi ll Ri chardson, assoc ia te professor of Bible and former missionary, and Ma rk Berryman, resident mi ssionary, influenced him in the right direction . "They showed me what to do to succeed in the mission field, " he said. Smith said he planned to apply to Harding's Marriage a nd Fa m ily Therapy program.
