SPIRITUAL LIFE Clubsprovide encouragement and opportunity to members Whether old or new, each club was proud of its traditions. Harding's tradition of social clubs itself started in the 1920s. Dedication to each other and to service are the major reasons socia l clubs have lasted so long. They proved beneficial to their members and the community alike. In most cases, clubs spent proportionate time on themselves and on others. Cultivating a better spirirua l life for members was an important duty of clubs. The club devotional directors made every effort to see to the spiritual needs of the members. "Our biggest goal this year was to grow spiritually. On Monday nights , we got together and either went out to ea t or had prayer groups and sang together," Ka Re Ta pres ident Rebecca Lawrence said. Most clubs included a time of worship during their meetings. They spent time singing, praying and li sten ing to fe llow members' messages. "We try to make spirituality a top priority. In our meetings , we always spend a lot of time in devotional. We get new perspectiveson biblical principles ," Regina member Marcella Witt said. Interclub devotional s were common as well. Many clubs joined together fo r sunrise devotionals. Others set aside times to worship wi th their brother or sister clubs. "We like to sing, and having our sister club at devotionals he lps complete the singing. It adds to the worship ," King's Men member Jonathan Andrews said. Some of the closest fri endships were formed between club members. Prayer groups offered the opportunity for club members to share their thoughts and requests with others and to solicit encouragement from friends. (continued on page 100.. .)
