Transfers prefer Harding The almost 200 new transfers to Harding this fall shared a common bond; each had deeper insight into the advantages of a Christian education at Harding based on their previous experiences at other schools. These students transferred for many different reasons. Harding faculty and students' caring attitude attracted Marci Fletcher of Little Rock. "I wanted some place that cared about me. I went to Louisiana Tech, and there you are just a number," she said. "Teachers here teally care about you. At my old school, teachers were so preoccupied with being published that they didn't take the time to get to know the students." Senior Lance Lemmonds of Searcy transferred from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. The friendly atmosphere at Harding has also helped him adjust. "I just love it," she said. "One day I was feeling really depressed and the singing just brought me up." Like Perez, Shane Helms of Russellville, Ark., benefited from the Christian influence. "I'd gone to a state school and knew I wanted to go some place with a spiritual emphasis," he said. Regardless oftheir reasons for choosing Harding, transfers found that the advantages presented by Harding's strong spiritual, social and academic influences outweighed their struggles to adjust. - Darcia Woodard Stephanie Fuscher visits with transfer student Troy Foxwell while taking her lunch break in the Student Center.
