l Molly Flanigan (secretarytreasurer), Shawn Breeden (vice president), and Jessika Poirier (president) served as freshmen class officers. Electing freshmen officers presented specialproblems for candidates and voters. The candidates could not depend on years offriendship to win them votes. Instead, they had only a few busy weeks to meet as many oftheir fellow freshmen as possible before elections. The success of their campaigns depended more on creative advertising. For the same reason, voting was difficult for the freshmen. Without getting to know the candidates through classes, clubs and other activities, knowing who would be the best leader was harder. At times they had to base their decision on the smallest details. "I voted for one guy I had class with. Then, I voted for anothergirl becausepeople had said she was cool. When it got right down to it, I chose the third person because she spelled her name cool," freshman Kim Hibdon said. Photo by Wendi Keller. Melissa Caudle - Benton, Ark.
