Physical plant staff keeps campus comfortable Students rarely see the electricians who fix the lights or the plumbers who repair the leaky pipes, yet everyone is a little better offwhen they are around. At Harding, this luxury comes from having the expert service of the university's physical plant staff. Many fail to see the important role the physical plant plays. "If we weren't here," staff worker Danny DeRamus said, "the universitywould be in aworld ofhurt. " Much of what the workers do is maintenance of the various buildings on campus. From projection screens caught in limbo to suddenly-darkened classrooms, physical plant workers are the ones to call for whatever ails a facility. Not all the work comes from patching up problems, though. Recent projects of the physical plant have included remodeling the ground floor of the Ezell Building and refurbishing in the Pryor Science Center. Workers have also been instrumental in the construction of new softball fields and lighting for the front lawn. DeRamus added that future tasks for the physical plant will include work on the second floor of the Ezell Building and possible installation of an elevator in the Olen Hendrix Building. Often overlooked and under appreciated, yet never unimportant, Harding 's physical plant workers stand as a reminder that the reward for serving others is not in the praise that may be gained but in knowing that a job is well done and others are helped along the way. - Eric Rodgers Carol Adams, Secretary, Foreign Languages Darlene Anderson, Postal Clerk Marcella Bailey, Secretary, School of Busi ness Gay Basinger, Secretary, Cooperati ve Education Lana Bawcom, Secretary, Coll ege of Bible and Religion Steve Beliech, Career Counse lor, Student Services Bob Boutell, Custodi an Meredith Boutell, Secreta ry, Family and Consumer Sciences Nicky Boyd, Director, Walton Scholarship Program Greg Brown, Admi ssions Counse lor Ruth Busby, Secretary, Marri age and Family Therapy Teresa Buss, Secretary, Library "By appreciation, wemakeexcellence in others our own property.
