Commitment week Lengthy commitment phase meets with dissatisfaction Seven weeks of activities allowed these new Class II members to learn the club's history and to show their desire to be part of the club. In order to reduce the potential for physical or emotional injury, clubs were prohibited from lining the inductees up, singling them out, or sending mail to them. The reaction of the student body to the new system resulted in general dissatisfaction. "It lasted so long that we just became frustrated after a while because we had other things to do," Greg Swackhamer, a 1994 inductee, said. StevenMogey agreed, "There was not enough excitement in the process because it dragged on for so long that we couldn't really focus on the club activities." Keri Kruse pledged her club in 1992 and observed the change as a problem. "I thought it was really emotionally draining for everyone involved. Those of us who were already in the club wondered if this was avaluable experience for the new girls at all, " she said. Swackhamer expressed another disadvantage of the new system: "I don 't think we learned to respect our club brothers as much as we could have because we knew that, with all the rules, they couldn't really do anything to us."
