Harding's role models recognized for academic and moral excellence •Selection p r o cess det ermines recipients o f the Who's Who leadership award Each year the faculty at Harding honors a few of their students through a national organization known as Who's Who among American Universities and Colleges. Several students are nominated, but only a few are chosen. To qualify for Who 's Who, a student must have exhibited an outstanding scholastic record and a well-rounded social life. For many students, it is an honor just to be nominated. There is a pride when a professor recognizes the potential in a student enough to nominate him or her, and there is a satisfaction in knowing that all the hard work has been worth the effort. Beth Ann Fox, a senior elementary education major, said, "I think the professors nominated me because they could see the love I have for teaching. They could tell that I am dedicated to the profession." Fox has several personal accomplishments. She has participated in the Spring Sing ensemble for two consecutive years . She was president of Zeta Rho and maintained many close friendships. "I think that being involved with so much shows leadership. The faculty see that I am zealous for what I do," she said. Earlier in the semester, Fox spoke to the entire staff about how to show Jesus in your life. "Can you imagine me speaking to Dr. Ganus and Dr. Burks on how to show Jesus in their lives?" Being nominated, in her opinion, was both an accomplishment and a stepping stone. "If I get Who's Who, it will sum up my major goals in college because it will show that my grades Who's Who 216 * Organizations Scott Alexander Danilo Amoretty Maria E. Arvizu Amy Balentine Cherie Barron Clay Beason Jessica Beltzer Christie Bishop Tamara Bledsoe Marsha Burkett Beth Carroll Rachel Carter Tiffany Chester James Clark Caroline Clements Julie Crockett Jason Dare Leoncio Dominguez Sarah Doran Tracy Falwell Scott Field are adequate and that my social skills were developed. It's also a stepping stone because it's another line on my resume. It wraps up one story and opens another," Fox said. Jason Dare, a senior biology major, said that being nominated to Who's Who was "one of many things that have been falling into place for me." Dare believes that he was nominated because of his strong relationships with the professors in his major. "I have kept a low profile in college, so I was really surprised that Iwas nominated. I have leadership from within and this makes me a quiet group leader, not a charismatic leader," Dare said. April Greer, a senior accounting major, saw her academic accomplishments as the reason for her nomination. "I'm a trustee scholar, accounting lab director, and carry a 4.0. Besides that, I've worked with the business professors and they have gotten to know me. They think I have leadersh ip. "I have been invo lved in other outside activities, but my academic career has been my focus during the past four years . I think that the professors look at that for potential leadership. "Being nominated is an honor. I don't want to make it sound small because it's not. But at the same time, it's a stepping stone for what I'm doing, " Greer said. Harding has a reputation for graduating the best of the best. These students are only a small sample of those who have contributed to that reputation. - Beth Smith
