A wide spectrum of nations unites in song, spreading their message among hearts •University singers experience growth in number and in their ministry With a song in their hearts, the members of University Singers make sweet music as they represent Harding wherever they go. Led by Dr. Cliff Ganus III, the University Singers have experienced tremendous growth in the years since their formation. The group includes students from all over the globe, spanning from Russia and Guatemala to Antigua and California. The travels of the group are often as extensive as the background of its members. Acontingent of 30 students were welcomed in six Churches of Christ throughout Jamaica last May on a 10-day tour in cooperation with the Jamaica School of Preaching. As one of the most active groups on campus, the University Singers always find a full schedule each year. The wide range of activities includes performances in chapel , lectureships and youth forums. They are also featured during landmark events such as Homecoming and spring concerts. The University Singers also has the distinction of being the largest of Harding 's musical groups, with 122 singers this year. With that dominant presence, the group has a significant role in the music department. "Choral music is popular," Ganus said, "because it is the voice of the people. The University Singers is the best representation of that since it is the most diversified and numerous at school. " While the most obvious focus is on music, the social aspect of the organization is also important. One of the members who takes pride in the fri endships is Caryn Parker, a freshman music major from Dawson, Ga. "The best part is the fellowship. I guess University Singers is the part of the week that makes me feel like a part of a group. We don 't just sing; we also have fellowship, " she said. Parker cheerfully added, "They love you whether you can sing or not! " The ability to use music to communicate a positive message is central to University Singers, whether the performance is at schools, churches, dedications or campaigns. There is a continuous effort to maintain excellence in all they do, including annual participation in the Christian College Choral Festival , which this year was in Nashville, Tenn. Years come and years go, but the University Singers never change their tune. They are all about making a difference with music. "We would hope that every concert is a service, " Ganus said. - Eric Rodgers University S ingers. First Row: J. Clark, J. Barrett, R. Evans, F. Aragon, M. Terada, C. Hutson, D. Simpson, S.
