However, when you listen to them, it is a different story. Like other campus musical groups, the Belles and Beaux recognize the universal language ofmusic and the important uses for it. With a spirited style, the singers continuously strive to serve the university community with great entertainment. One of the smaller groups on campus, the Belles and Beaux live up to the challenge of going before thousands of people at a time with the manner of seasoned professionals. Chuck Hicks, who joined the group this year as its new director, was ready for action. "The ability to provide entertainment is a great gift," Hicks said of his talented students. "This group excites me, because with just a few people, they can accomplish something very big. " Hicks changed the group's format in an effort to better reach high school students. The group's repertoire now includes many popular "top 40" songs, in addition to songs of the jazz and country genres. Belles and Beaux members performed at a variety of functions this year, including high-profile events such as chapel and Homecoming. Since their target audience was high school students, they joined the Admissions office on recruiting trips to areas in and around Arkansas . Through their performances, the Belles and Beaux brought people closer together while maintaining a close bond within the group. Belles and Beaux members each fulfilled a tremendous duty whi le enhancing the group's quality. "Everybody shares a great responsibility, but at the same time, we hope to have as much fun with it as the audiences do," Hicks said. - Eric Rodgers Belles & Beaux.
