Students take advantage of artistic talents to open ministry opportunities for youth •Conquerors uses unique strategy to influence audience with the Word Drama, as a means of communication and entertainment, is older than the Christian era. One of the groups at Harding that uses drama as a stage to speak about Christian themes and ideals is Conquerors. The group, composed exclusively of Harding students, performs mainly at youth rallies in other states. They have helped the Harding admissions team to attract new students and have performed on campus for Peak of the Week and during chapel, according to member Betty Davis, a sophomore from Worthington, Ind. "Youth rallies are a great place to reach people because Christian teens can invite their non-Christian friends. It's a more comfortable and relaxed situation for inviting people who do not know Christ," Davis said. Conquerors performs every other weekend during the semester. The non-scholarship group funds their own ministry. When they go on weekend trips, they drive their own cars and buy their own gas. "I just praise God for a way that I can use my talents to reach people, because I think God has really opened the door for me to serve in this way," Davis said in regard to their motivat ion. Jeremy Blair, a sophomore from Chattanooga Tenn., said that members of the group usually meet about once a week to go over skits and up-coming performances, but the skits are done live and usually unrehearsed. "We do a lot of ad-libbing," Blair said. Members of the group said that the trips are enjoyable and that their participation in the group is to proclaim the work of Christ through humor and entertainment. "Our goal is that each person who watches our skits will see some aspect of the Lord, " Blair said. When planning and writing their skits, Conquerors' goal is to teach Christian points with humor. "We do funny skits so that it is a comfortable situation for teen-agers; it's not serious, and it doesn't make them as nervous, but more relaxed instead," Davis said. Conquerors is a great opportunity to share the gospel with a younger audience through entertainment. The members are able to use their talents to serve and grow through sacrifice and commitment. "I have been truly blessed by finding such a great way to serve and by working with such a wonderful group of people, " Davis said. - Shellie Morris Conquerors.
