While it looked as though they were digging trenches, they were actually laying lines for the new lampposts that sprung up across campus. According to Ronnie Burkett of the Physical Plant, security was the main reason that the new lights were installedon campus. "Dr. Burks promised the students more lights on campus for security purposes," Burkett said. The whole process of installing the lights took three weeks. The lights follow the same art deco style as the clock located in the mall. "The architect who designedthemallsuggestedthese lzghts for the campus,"Burkett said. This style of lampposts will be used throughout the campus from now on. Four new lights were installedat the athletic center and fourteen were installed along Park St., especially in front ofthe laundry. When the newwomen's dorm by Sears is completed, the same type of lzghts will be installed there, Burkett said.
