When not patroling the school, the security officers could often be found helping students in need. From those who needed a dead battery jumped to others who found themselves constantly locking their keys in their car, a helpful security officer couldalways be countedon to assist. This year, the Harding security branched out to better serve its public. During the summer, they bought two new cars, or "cruisers," that allowed the men to be more noticeable on campus. Bike cops were also a new addition to the security staff. The intent behind the bike patrol was more ground coverage. They were able to go anywhere on campus, unlike the security cars. A security guard could also be found in the old gym during "free play" to check !D 's and to keep the peace. late at night, the guards were also available to escort anyone back to the dorm who did not feel safe walking alone. Also, lighting was improved on campus to help deter potential problems at night. Photo byAaron Gillihan. 162 ~- M-~P-eo-p~l-e~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
