Freshmen Junior Jana White watches as a nursing home resident is presented with the Resident oftheMonth award. The program was begun several years ago by a social work student who wanted to see the Social Work Club reach out to the Searcy community. Every month, the Social Work Club contacts the area nursing homes and talks to the social workers there to find out who would make a good candidate for that month 's award. Then the members of the club go to the homes and visit with the winners. later that month, the winners are presentedwith a plaque honoring them in chapel. While in chapel, a biography of each person is read, and each one gives his or her personal advice for the student body. "These people may not have been famous, but they have done and seen a lot," President Heather Heffington said. "This is a way to honor them. "Heffington continued by saying that this program is an important type ofChristian service andalso helps the social work majors receive exposure to the work in their field.
