Road Trips When studies and college life are too much to handle.many students find weekend road trips the perfect way to get away. It was pitch black outside and the only sign of life on campus was in front of Ke ll r dorm where enior Andrew Brady and junior Craig Smith were loading the ir truck . What could make two students get up at 3 a.m. on a Saturday? How about a stress-relieving, freedom-finding road trip north to Kansas City to see the Chiefs? "It was great; it re lieved a lot of stress from school work," Brady said . Smith agreed, "It was great to gt?t away. " Many Harding students often felt the need to escape the atmosphere of school and the limited activities of Searcy. Road trips were the perfect way to accomplish this . Whether it was for one day or several, nothing could beat the exhilarating feeling of jumping into the car and, with sunglasses, duffel bag and some favorite tapes , beating a path down the road to freedom from school responsibilities . To make the trip even longer , some students saved up their class skips and left in the middle of the week. "It was so great. All of us ould leave on Wednesday and we went to Asheville for a fourday weekend, " senior Stacey Vaughan said. Vaughan was one of three students who traveled with Tracy Evans to her home in Asheville, North Carolina. Andrea Poner - Harrison. Ohio. 1n1erior Design. Della Gamma Rho (Presiden1. For those who lived more than a w eekend away from home though , going to see a nearby relative helped them feel a little c loser to home. Bryan Ries, a junior from Davenport. Iowa, went to both Bartlesville, Okla. , and York College in Nebraska to see his brother play bask tball. "Road trips are really good for just getting away from school work; it's worth it ," he said . Road trips also gave students a chance to see new parts of the country. Canaan Becker, a junior from Grand Junction, Colo ., took a weekend excursion to visit a friend attending college in Mobile, Ala . "It was so much fun to get out of Searcy and go to a place I'd never been before," she said . "It was great to spend time with friends." Becker also said that , while she needed to get away from school for awhile, the trip and atmosphere of the place she visited gave her a new appreciation for the atmosphe re here. Although students who took road trips during the year enjoy d th ir experiences and adventures, most agreed that returning to Searcy only made them appreciate Harding more. - Missy McJunkins
