Students reinstitute dorm devotionals in. The Harding campu has always been alive with opportunities for spiritual growth and discovery. In 1993 many students became involved with a brand new concept in devotional and praise time. P.M. Praise was originally intended to be just another slate of dorm devotionals. But with dorm devos playing such a prominent and sometimes tiresome role in the past, the spiritual life committee decided to put a new twist on things. Carolyn Holmes , who along with Nathan Mellor was appointed to co-chair P.M. Praise, said, "People often have negative images of devos, so we decided to make it more of a time for just praising God... a time for students to unwind after curfew, to relax and refocus. " . The short programs, held every other Tuesday night in each dorm, consisted mainly of songs and prayer. Speakers would address the groups with about five minutes of brief thoughts and messages. "This gave students who might not otherwise have it, the chance to speak to their peers, " said Holmes. P.M. Praise was also designed with accessibility in mind. The programs started at 11:15 p.m. and seldom lasted longer than 20 minutes. This format proved more convenient for students. Faith Ort, a senior from Vancouver, Wash. , said, "I think it's a wonderful idea. It has brought a lot of different people out who might not normally attend devos. And I know our group in Stephens has grown very close." Kristi Cash, a senior from Gresham, Ore., said, "It's a good idea. I think that often we don 't take enough time to clear our minds and just praise God. " - Tim Stanley
