Tucked away in ide this hou e i the ear Learning C nter ( LC\ whi h offer free tutoring to all Hardino tudents. All tutoring is done by tudents who have ucc fully complet d the classes th now tutor. The LC i certified by the C llege of R ading and Learning o iation, and it operates by their guideline . The include 10 pour of training and certification upon completion of25 hours of tutoring. Thi training emphaize helping students learn how to 1 am, the ba ic philo ophy of the LC. tutor Heather McGlaughlin said '·we ny to tutor ·tudents in such a way that th y won 't need tutoring.· Basically, the tutor are trying to work them elve out of a job teaching the students to become independent learner . The Learning Center had two major expansion thi year. First, their upplemental In truction ( I) program expanded by two cla s I i group tutoring, offered for ome of Harding general education requirements , potentially reaching 00 tudents. The other expan ion thi year wa a reading proficiency oftare program which offer upplemental reading a i tance through the u e of computers. Besides offering tutoring, the Learning Center al o offer several learning trategy orkshops each semester. Th e include seminar in note-taking re t-taking, time management , and general tudy kill .
