Students who write poetry and fiction found an outlet this year in Scribblers, an informal group which met every other week to share their creative writing and to get responses from others. "Scribblers offers students an audience and feedback, " said Dr. John Williams, adviser. Although some members have had their work published , Williams said, Scribblers accepted writers from all levels, including beginners. In addition to poetry readings featuring their own work, Scribblers hosted guest speakers who shared various aspects of writing and Scribblers Shift into Second Year publishing skills. The group, which started in 1992-93 as an off-shoot of Sigma Tau Delta ational English Honor Society, wanted an informa l organization of students who wrote poetry and fiction on a regular basis to share their work with," according to Sondra Smith, a past president. "A lot of times you get in a rut ," Adam Brooks, a sophomore psychology major from Noblesville, Ind. , said . "Having other writers read your work lets you improve. " According to Charles Adams , a graduate student form Readyville , Tenn. , input from Dr. Williams and other members proved valuable wi th suggestions for overcoming writer's block, and exploring new ways to express themselves in writing. "It 's scary to share something as personal as something you 've written ," Adams said. "But you know that Scribblers are there to help you and no one will think that what you've written is dumb.
