At 11 :45 a .m., the bell sounded, announcing the start of class. Instead of the usual groans and complaints, the sounds of laughter and friendly conversation fill ed the room. Students turned in prayer requests and focused their minds as the daily prayer was led by a fellow student. Believe it or not , this scenario describes the daily routine for Concert Choir. "Choir is like a family atmoCatnpaigns Create Close-knit sphere," said Tom Wright , a junior from Des Moines, Iowa. "It 's not like an actual class; it 's more like meeting and singing with friends." Choir "It 's my family here at school ," said junior Julie Pickens . "We are all so close to each other because we all share a common goa l. " Choir members held not only each other in high regard , but also their director , Dr. Arthur Shearin. "He is very funny, but he is also very professional. He gets things done, " said freshman Shane Jackson . "One of the most special things has been traveling on campaigns together, because you always develop bonds ," said senior Laura Rice. Choir president Jonathan Vest felt that one of the greatest opportunities the choir had to offer was the chance to go on various campaigns . "Last summer, we went to Germany and Switzerland ," he said. "I think choir campaigns are great because singing reaches people more easily than talking, becau e music is a universal language ." To be in Concert Choir was "a privilege, but also a responsibility requiring the people to give up a lot of other things ,'' Pickens said, "but I wouldn 't trade it for anything.
