Having a sibling at Harding is almost like . .. HOME AWAY FROM HOME "Sibling rivalry" wa a somewhat foreign concept for Harding students whose brother or sister was also enrolled. Most said they enjoyed having each other around, "especially during the hard times," and that relationships grew stronger because of the common bond they . shared as students. Karen and Diana Springer, freshman twins from West Germany, chose to room together. Diana said, "It's great to have someone here that I know. You can remember home , remember the good times , make good things out of being so far away from home ." Karen and Diana, who grew up being best friends, say rooming together has made them even closer. "It 's great being sisters because we each get to meet different people and we both get to know them, " Karen aid. Jen and Scott Thornton came to Harding from Franklin, Tenn. Although they were not particularly do e, they say their relationship has grown since they have been together at college. "I loved my brother being here. It made it easier for me because he wa an upperclassman," Jen said. "If I got homesick, I could just go see my brother, and that always helped. " Scott said, "I really enjoyed having my younger sister here. It 's home away from home and I always have someone to talk to if I need to. " David and Keith Evans came to Searcy from Houston, Texas. "My brother and I get along better now than before, and we have grown closer since we came to Harding,' Keith said. David agreed, saying, "I really enjoyed having my brother here with me. I can keep an eye on Cody and Shawn Fisher talk about their daily activities on their way to class. Siblings made good use of their chance meetings on campus to catch up on each others · lives. All the students agreed that it has been a wonderful experience for them to be at Harding together. They shared a lot of good times and a lot of heartaches throughout the year. Jen summarized the feelings shared by siblings by saying, "Having someone there to share good times and to lend a shoulder for the bad makes it wonderful to have family close by." - Traci Busby
