The All-School Retreat gets the school year. .. OFF TO A GOOD START The Bible department sponsored an All-School retreat the first weekend after school began to help new and returning students "get off to a good start, " according to Monte Cox, coordinator. Designed to encourage students "to renew their commitment to the Lord," the two-day program was held at Camp Wyldewood. Stanley Shipp, coordinator of missions internships for the Mid-County Church ofChrist in St. Louis , was the keynote speaker. His three presentations and those of other speakers-MarkMoore,Robert Chambers, Marnie Moore and Suzanne Casey - focused on the general topic of commitment. "Stanley Shipp 's lessons were real encouraging to me, " said Angie Fouts, a freshman from Searcy. "He found a way to tell people in various situations about God." Small group discussions and prayer times were interspersed with lectures and a special presentation of spiritual songs by the student group, Legacy. On Saturday morning, participants were encouraged to "grab a friend " and go off by themselves "to recommit their lives and to share and pray together about their renewed commitments, "Cox said. "There were some real live confessions," he said. "I saw some real change in people 's lives that morning. " Amy Jones, a freshman from Valdosta, Georgia, said, "The retreat was a lot of fun. It was very spiritually-oriented, and it provided a great chance for freshmen to meet other people. " This was the first year since 1977 that an event like this was held. "We're going to try to make this an annual event, " Cox said. "It really seemed to make an impact on the lives of the people who attended.
