Although unofficial , Harding soccer is . . . Although occer has been around for a long time and has received lots of recognition in Mexico, Italy, England and other countries, the port has just tarted to pickup momentum in this part of the United States. The Arkansas Intercolle-giate Conference (AIC) , of which Harding is a member, has not included soccer in its sports program, but a number of AIC chools formed the Arkansas Intercollegiate Soccer League. A of this year, the league included teams from Henderson tate University, Arkansas Tech University, University of SouthernArkansas,Arkansas College, University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Ouachita Baptist University. Senior Leana Watson, the women's team captain, was the · only woman on the Sidekicks team last year. "It was fun, but I felt a little awkward. I worked really hard to get a girls ' team started and it's rewarding to see 20 girls on the field when we practice. " Competition for positions on the men's teams has grown each year, with 65 trying out for teams this season. enior David Hook, captain of the Sidekicks and one of the tryout judges, said, "Some tough decisions had to be made.
