Tentmakers - preparing Christians to take their place in the world Kim Maddox, Denise Winn and Dale Hollis visit with the mother of a newborn. Tentmakers vis ited hospitals as part of an outreach project. "Tentmakers really has an eternal focus ," said Leslie McDowell , a senior from Indiana. The club, which was created last year, focused on helping students realize the importance of vocational ministry. The purpose of Tentmakers is to help students find their role in the church so that one day they will be able to support themselves with a job for which God has gifted them and still be active, effective workers in the Kingdom. "This year we emphasized the fact that vocational ministry is not a title , it 's a lifestyle ," said Tracy Harvey, president. "The theme for the year was laying a foundation--both for the club and for vocational ministry. " The group sponsored an eight-week series of classes on vocational ministry at the Cloverdale Church of Christ, and also began a hospital visitation program. "We chose to visit patients in hospitals for our service project," said Rob Victor, a senior from Michigan. "We wanted to do something to help give us experience meeting and talking with people about the Lord. " McDowell said, "I think the most important thing that has happened is that Easton Valentine accepts candy from his sister, Auburn , and JOY members (I to r)Wendy Williams and Melissa Rus ell. Victor agreed, "I think that the club teaches us that the church is the number one priority, and our job is second." The club ' sponsors were Flavil Yeakley and Nathan Jorgenson. The ponsors as well as the members felt it was very important to get people involved and get them out of the Bible Belt and into other areas. This year the club met everymonth and had speak rs on various topics concerning vocational mission work and things students could do to prepare themselves to serve God after graduation. "The unique thing about Tentmakers is that our one purpose is service for the Lord," said Wyatt. "It's a club designed to prepare us for beyond Harding. " - Melanie ] ohnson Organizations 7 9
