Graduate School Prepares Men for Christian Ministry Dr. Edward P. Myers became dean and executive director of the Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis in June. He replaced Dr. Philip Slate, who returned to full-time t aching duties at the school. "We feel very confident to have a talented and effective individual like Myers administering the program of our graduate school. He shares the commitments and goals that Harding bas made to the area of graduate education," said Dr. David Burks, president of the university , upon announcing the appointment. Myers joined the faculty of Harding's College Bible and Religion in Searcy in January, 1992. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma Christian University, Magnolia Bible College and Mid-South Christian College. He was the visiting professor of religion in Seoul, Korea , at Korea Christian College in 1990. Previous experiences in education for Myers included serving as academic dean and professor of Bible at Alabama Christian School ofReligion and as chairman of the Bible department at Ohio Valley College. He has written frequently for the Gospel Advocate. Myers majored in historical and theological studies at Drew University, where he received the Ph.D. degree in Dr. Eel Myers directs the program of study at Harding Graduate , chool of Religion in Memphis. He was appointed in June to succeed Dr. Philip Slate. 1985. He holds master 's degrees in philosophy, theology and religion. He is a graduate ofLubbock Christian University. Among his writings, Myers has authored several books , including Doctrine of the Godhead and The Problem of Evil and Suffering. He is a member of the Society ofBiblical Literature and the Evangelica l Theological Society. nder hi leadership, the graduate school will begin a new Ph.D. program in religion in 1993. -- Kay Gowen HGSR Profile The Harding Graduate School of Religion began in 1952 as the dream of two men who saw the imperative need for biblically-based graduate education for ministers of the Churches of Christ. For Dr. George . Benson and Dr. W. B. West,Jr., the dream became a reality as more than 2,800 tudent had attended the Graduate School of Religion and 1,096 degrees had been awarded by the year 1990. The level of cholarship at the Harding Graduate School of Religion ha been unquestionably high , but the real significance of the institution can be found in the lives of its alumni. In their ministry, they demonstrate the real value and importance of a graduate education in Bible. Alumni serve a preachers , missionarie and teacher in 42 tates and 24 foreign countries.
