The veteran Bison golf team performed well fo r new head coach, Scott Ragsdale. Ma tt Tiller sends the ba ll sa iling across the green. Consistency played a key role in the Bi on ' success. Scott Ragsdale entered into his first season as a head coach for the Bison golfers with big shoes to fill. The new coach had a veteran team that recorded third-place finishes in both the AIC and District 17 competition the previous year. "We began the year with our emphasis direct and to the point ," Ragsdale said. "I knew that hard work, a ttention to details , and some consistency would take us a long way towards realizing our potential. "I knew that it would be difficult to improve on last season's finish ," Ragsdale said. Tech and Henderson play solid golf. I really wanted to build our program up to their level of play as soon as we could. " Consistency was the key word in describing the Bison golf team. The consistent play of the Bisons led to their third-place finish . 136 Athletics ~ t1. 0 f0 :r: 0.. "The race for third place was really tight ," Ragsdale said. "SAU, Harding, UCA and Ouachita all had a good shot at taking third in the conference. " The Bisons were led by seniors Todd Rhinehart and Darrell Welch. The team scored 37.5 points through six 18hole rounds of Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference competition.Arkansas Tech, who won the competition, had 51 points; and the defending champions , Henderson, tallied 49. Junior BaitMcFarland was the team's top scorer as he held down the number 12th AIC ranking with an 80.4 per round average. Rhinehart was only .2 points behind McFarland, capturing the 13th ranking. Welch also made the final top20 player roll with his 81 .4 average; he placed 17th. --Bill Carruthers Dave DeWitt takes his practice strokes at the driving range.
