In summarizing the 1992 volleyball season , Bison Coach Karyl Bailey mentioned words like "rebuilding" and "inexperience ," but mainly, "character. " He was confident that the Lady Bisons would rebound and be a contender in seasons to come. "This was a rebuilding year for us,'' said Coach Bailey. "We had a lot of youngsters. This team put forth a really good effort, but inexperience resulted in some tough losses. " Another obstacle that faced this year's team was the schedule. "This was the toughest schedule that I had ever encountered since I have been at Harding," said Bailey. "We played five teams that were in the AIA top 15 in the country, including the number two team. We also played many Division II teams that included West Texas State, which went on to win the championship. "Even though we lost a lot of close games ," said Bailey, "we never gave up . This team had character! " The team was led by junior Kathleen Bassham and sophomores Angela Johnson and Amy Deuel. Deuel was named to both the All-Conference and All-District teams despite an injuryplagued year. The team graduated only one senior, so the future looks bright for the Lady Bisons. Despite their size, Bailey was impressed by the team's defense , passing and overall smart play. With another year under their belt and character already taking shape , Harding's volleyball team finished the season expecting great things next season and beyond. - Harry De Benedictis, Jr. Lady Bison Becky Pru in goes up to put the ba ll away.
