ALPHA CHI: Officers Direct Convention Plans Alpha Chi membership was a national honor recognizing students who excelled academically. The organization maintained a local chapter which focused its attention on induction of new members and preparation of presenters for the regional convention. Anna Conley, a senior accounting major from Searcy, served as president of the Arkansas Eta chapter. A senior art major from White Bear Lake, Mich., Diane Roof was vice president of the organization. Anissa Campbell, a senior English and Spanish major from Texarkana, Ark., served as secretary of Alpha Chi while Nichols, Iowa ~ native, Mark Pruitt, a senior ~ accounting major, served~ as treasurer. Chantelle Be- ~ quette, a senior chemistry ~ major from Russellville, ~ Ark., was the student repre- ? sentative at the national meetings. 90 ORGANIZATIONS Approximately fifteen sponsors, officers, and members attended the regional Alpha Chi convention at Centenary in Shreveport, La., in April. A part of Region II, which includes part of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, Harding's chapter had four representatives who presented academic papers at the convention. " The convention is the main event for Alpha Chi each year," said Dr. Don England. " The students present papers, much like graduate school papers. It is an excellent opportunity for students to develop professionally," he said. In addition, Alpha Chi officers in association with their sponsors, worked with the College Bowl program, an extra-curricular activity that involves sending a quiz team to compete with other universities and colleges in a current events/basic knowledge contest. Alpha Chi sponsored the activity in an attempt to better support scholarship and knowledge acquisition at Harding.• - K.ay Gowen ALPHA CHI OFFICERS.
