AERHO: National, Local Chapters Travel And Compete Alpha Epsilon Rho was the National Honors Broadcasting Society. AERho has a national and local chapter at Harding. The national chapter was considered the honors chapter, and was sponsored by Dr. Louis Butterfield. Butterfield was also the state coordinator. The sponsor for the local chapter was Steven Frye. Each Spring semester the chapter traveled to the national convention. Last year they spent five days in Hollywood, Calif., learning from the top broadcasting people in the nation. They heard talks from anchors, actors, and producers including Vin Di Bona, producer ofAmerica's Funniest Home Videos and America's Funniest People. Students also had the chance to receive interview tips, have their resume 's reviewed, and get advice on making it to the top. They also attended the tapings of America's Funniest Home Videos and Johnny Carson Show to see how the shows are put together and taped for broadcast. AERho members could compete each year in regional and national conventions. They sent in various video footage of sports, talk shows, and entertainment, in both audio and visual competition. Competition also included Public Service Announcements and music videos. Students competed for awards, recognition and scholarships. Members who won scholarships were honored at an awards ceremony at the national convention. Scholarships were awarded based on grade point average, AERho participation and accomplishment.
