Shawn Hicks: Yodeling And Entertaining Shawn Hicks, a junior Spanish education major from Kilgore, TX, used an unusual talent to entertain people this past year. Hicks, an amateur yodeler, first became interested in the art of yodeling at the age of l3. "I picked up on it by watching well-known country music yodelers and by listening to instructional records, " she said. She also said that she yodels primarily for enjoyment, although she would not hesitate using the talent to make money. She has performed in many different places, including country music shows, optimist clubs and other civic organizations, and student talent shows. She also participated in and won this fall's GMC Truck Entertainment Contest on both the local and state levels. "It's a lot of fun doing something that not many people do," she said. "It also helps me meet people. " Hicks' talents were not limited to yodeling by any means. She also was an active member in the Spanish club and Ka Re Ta social club.
