Modernized Ad Building Serves Many The most visible building on the Harding campus, the Administration building, was renovated during the 1991-92 school year in three different phases, spanning September 1990 to February 1992. Most of the renovations were covered by the $1.35 million donation of an anonymous California alumni. The Harding physical plant handled all of the renovations themselves. Some of the heavier work included the gutting of the Little Theatre. Dr. Bill Ryan, physical plant engineer, estimated that Harding saved about 10 percent of costs by doing the work inhouse. When asked to what extent the building would be upgraded, Ryan answered, "The building will have air conditioning and most of the building will be carpeted." Surprisingly, the Ad. building was first built in 1951 with air conditioning, but it was not Leah Mangrum - McComb, MS Paul Mann - Nashville, TN Stacy Mantooth - Broken Arrow, OK Todd Maples - Huntsville, AL Greg Mardis - Forrest City, AR William Markart - Memphis, TN Keri Marlin - Tulsa, OK Darin Martin - Bartlesville, OK Benny Martinez - Fresno, CA Margie Massey - Helotes, TX Randall Massey - Searcy, AR Misty Massey - Tulsa, OK Mitch Mathews - Fullerton, CA Tammy Maxvill - Ozark, MO Sherrie McAleese - Searcy, AR 220 CLASSES replaced when it quit working. Some of the features of the "new" Ad. building are burgundy and gray carpeted floors, and ladies' and mens' restrooms on all three floors. Ryan said the auditorium holds approximately 1,000 people. It is an intermediate auditorium, with the Heritage Auditorium holding 500 and the Benson holding around 3,500. The auditorium was used for American Studies programs, some entertainers and some movies. Furthermore, the drama department used it for almost all of their productions. Clearly the newly-renovated building will be of great use and service to a wide variety of people. The classroom and auditorium space was greatly needed as Harding has broken enrollment records each year.+ - Angela Anderson SOMEBODY'S GOTTA DO IT. Workers assist with the remodeling of the Administration Building. This face lift was a much awaited project that was finished during the spring.
