The Joy Of Ring Ceremonies Choosing the person whom you want to marry was a decision that many Harding students made during their college years. Because of the once-ina-lifetime quality of engagements, many tried to make the moment as special as possible. One special thrill was when a girl announced her new status to her club sisters. This memorable, and often surprising, event was the ring ceremony. The first step in a ring ceremony was notifying the club president. Those in on the news were kept to a minimum in order to protect the element of surprise. After a time was set, all club members were notified by notices on the women's dormitory. As they whispered and speculated on who they thought was the lucky woman, the club gathered in a circle. It was passed around until the lucky woman blew out the candle and was bombarded by delighted screams and hugs from her club sisters. Jennifer Rogers (Phi-Delta) had to throw people off the trail for her ceremony. She admitted it was hard for her to keep her cover. "I felt nervous and was anxious to get it over with so I could wear the ring in public." Ring ceremonies were a way to create special memories. Years later, those who became engaged while at Harding would hold that vision of the glowing candle and the silhouetted faces of their friends among their most cherished memories.+ - Angela Anderson WHAT A ROCKl Alumni Sheri Tacker, Michele Griffith and senior Debbie Bitting admire Kristin Ford 's ring during her ceremony.
