CAMPAIGN Hillsboro Launches National Television Show After much research and prayer, elders of the Hillsboro Church of Christ, Nashville, Tenn., announced taking oversight of a new, national television ministry to begin January, 1992. The initial budget of $1.2 million dollars provided production and distribution of the 30-minute, weekly talkshow program. The funding included broadcasting of the program, up to three times weekly in some communities, via satellite, commercial television stations, and cable television systems. Entitled Campaign America, the weekly program targeted the babyboomer generation which is the largest age group in the U.S. population, about 45%. The program featured a regular host, but different guests from churches of Christ across the country were also featured. Fundamental Bible questions were taken from the studio audience and callers nationwide as they called-in. "The ttillsboro eldership has long been a supporter of television ministries to preach the Gospel," stated 80year-old Prentice Meador Sr., spokesman for the t1illsboro eldership. "The elders also recognized that new opportunities in broadcasting and the obvious search by most Americans for an understanding of God requires a fresh approach to reaching the lost with the fundamental teachings of God's Word." Though the television show was called Campaign America it was also the title of the entire on-going national campaign. The campaign consisted of three critical elements. First, the weekly T.V. program with a totally new approach for the brotherhood. Not only did it feature presenters from local congregations answering Bible questions but, through the use of satellite technology, the program originated from different cities and churches across America. The second element was the offer of free Bible correspondence courses to everyone who calls the special 800number during the T. V. program. The course was totally new, designed especially for Campaign America by the Gospel Advocate Company. The third element was campaign materials for local churches to tie-in with the national show and advertisements to help with local evangelistic efforts. These campaign materials could be used anytime during the year and included specially designed items for radio, television, newspaper and direct mail in the community.+ Campaign America Bulletin Edited by Anissa Campbell.
