I nterc{u6 Counci{ Making Recommendations Everyone remembers pledge week and the fond memories? For upperclassmen, it is thought to be invigorating to get revenge for all of the atrocities that had been endured in years past. For freshmen, however, it is the crucible of personal encounter with humiliation. And at times, induction procedures can get out of hand. That is why the administration has developed the role of the lnterclub Council (ICC). The ICC is a student governing body for social clubs that deals mainly with pledge week. Each social club had two representatives that served for a year. Dean Gardner presided over ICC meetings and helped to steer the Council towards issues that were affecting club activity. Student leadership was provided by a popularly-elected Executive Council whose 1991-92 members included: Lisa Cleaver, Leslyn Rose, Jane Norton, Matt Ogren, Kevin Kee and Glen Knight. They acted as ajudiciary board and made recommendations to the administration concerning what disciplinary actions should be taken. The role of the ICC was to make rules and regulations, which is important, because as Lisa Cleaver said, " It's not just the administration making rules, it's social clubs making rules." Dean Gardner recognized the importance of student regulation to the system, "Their input, to monitor and make recommendations for change, is very vital to the social clubs system. Many of the positive changes, with regard to induction week, have been brought about as a result of the ICC. " The university, by utilizing the energy and potential of the students, improved a system developed primarily for the students. The students were given a chance to develop leadership skills, give input and get to see the results of their hard work. + - Matt Lewis HARD WORK PAYS OFF.
