The suspension that had built up inside the queen nominees and the audience was broken when the queen was revealed. West was surprised to hear her name announced during the half time festivities at the Bison basketball game. "I was very shocked and surprised when they announced my name. It is an honor to represent the basketball team. I was very excited," West said. Gata social club sponsored the Winter Festival to raise money to send children to summer camp at Wyldewood. Gata members were at the gym doors collecting money before the game. They also had a money toss before the queen and her court were announced. The other queen nominees were Beth Howard, a junior elementary education major from Searcy, Arkansas, and Kelly Cooper a sophomore speech pathology major from Memphis, Tennessee. Court members were senior Ashley Cosby from Shreveport, Louisiana; junior Kristy Dawdy from Honey Grove, Texas; sophomore Kaci Bolls from Murray, Kentucky; and freshman Andrea Robertson from Searcy, Arkansas. Robertson said, " Being nominated was a complete surprise. But it was a great thrill to be selected by my peers.
