College of Arts and Sciences Department of Foreign Language and International Studies Working in the Summer The Modern Foreign Language Department received a new staff member this year, Shirley Boyd, to replace Robert Helsten after his retirement. Mrs. Boyd taught at Pepperdine with missionaries and then moved to Searcy to teach English at Harding Academy before coming to the University. Mrs. Ava Conley was busy this year getting ready for the annual summer work study tour in Venezuela. This mission effort concentrated on a different part of the country each year as the church in Venezuela tried to evangelize as many of the people there as possible. Many students participated in the program even though a working knowledge of the Spanish language was required. Dr. Winfred Wright, Chairman of the Foreign Language Department, and Dr. Dorothy Wright planned to go to Harding University at Florence as two of the summer professors in the HUF program.
