Saywer, Jr. Councils Give Guidance As they went through their daily routines, students probably didn't stop to think about the governing body that regulated their activities. It was even less likely that students were aware of the group of professionals that helped set the academic policies of the university. Though t hey weren't particularly visible, the Board of Trustees and the President's Development Council affected the life of every student on campus. As the governing body, the Board of Trustees was legally, ethically, and morally responsible for the university. The Board, which consisted of volunteers, met twice a year. The President's Development Council consisted of 400 men and women who advised the faculty on academic affairs. For the second year in a row, each council member served on one of five subgroups which represented various academic disciplines. Other responsibilities of the council included recruiting, publicity and fundraising. Council members were professional leaders who were asked by the administration to serve. by Leslie Holland President Emeritus/Board And Council 229
