THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Dr. Clifton L. Ganus, Chancellor, talks with Mrs. Brackett at the dedication of the new library. The Bracketts donated money enabling Harding to build the structure. Chancellor Dr. Clifton L. Ganus, Jr. BEHIND THE PODIUM. Dr. David Burks, President, makes a presentation at the Ethics Seminar. Burks made many speeches over the year. Ganus Has Challenging Jobs Dr. Clifton L. Ganus has been active in Harding's history. Ganus began his career at Harding as a professor of history. He then became Chairman of the Department of History and Social Science and Dean of the School of American Studies. He became vice-president of Harding in 1956 and then succeeded George Benson as president in 1965. Ganus became the first Chancellor of Harding University when he retired from the presidency in 1987. Ganus said, "I've always felt I made the WHAT SNEAKERS? Dr. David Burks President, wears a typical student's attir~ to chapel. Burks traded places with a students for one day in February. right choice in pursuing a career in Christian education rather than the restaurant business. " Retirement from the presidency of Harding did not bring rest and relaxation. It brought a new and challenging job, as chancellor Ganus had more time to do public relations and development without all the administrative responsibilities. He traveled around the world promoting Christian education as he spoke to approximately 100 congregations a year. He visited many people who supported Harding in order to keep them notified about current activities.
