Achieving Their Goal "Our whole goal was a conference win-and we did it," explained junior Chandra Latimer as she summed up the women's track team's 1990 season. Throughout the season, team members competed in individual events. On May 3-5 Harding hosted the conference meet and the team walked away with first place. According to Assistant Coach Bryan Phillips, a large portion of the credit goes to "a strong group of distance runners." The moral support of teammates also affected the overall performance. We functioned as a team and not just as a bunch of individuals out there," explained sophomore Lori Witson. One highlight of the meet was the 1500 meter run in which Harding took first, second and third place. The team's first place finish in the 1600 meter relay was yet another feather in its cap. According to junior Kelsie Hutchison, the meet helped foster a strong sense of team unity. As she put it, "It wasn't just four of us running, it was all of us." In addition to the prestige of a conference title, several members met individual goals by making the allconference team or qualifying for nationals. Seniors Sharon Coleman, Melinda Cordry and Margaret Eoff were also the recipients of various scholar-athlete awards. - Leslie Holland Front row: Kelsie Hutchison, Margaret Byrd, Kara Hutchinson.
