1990-1991 Yearbook

Team Received 17th in National Competition It is difficult to choose just one event as the one highlight from the 1990 tennis season. The team won the AIC, after being first runners-up in 1989, championed District 17, for the second consecutive year, and finished 17th in the national competition in Kansas City, a higher rank than before. In addition to these achievements, the team was undefeated in the AIC, and traveled to the national competition as they have done for seven of the past eight years. They ended the season with a 20-7 record. Reflecting on ' the season, Coach David Elliott said the most memorable highlights to him included finishing 17th in the national tournament and two players having named AllAmerican - Richie Roberts and Ernesto Tovar. "Our team was very successful," Roberts said. "We had some great wins that led to winning the AIC and District 17. Our expectations were quite a bit higher, and we went on to the nationals. I think one of the reasons for our success is that we support each other well. We are pretty close team." Lee Mackey agreed that those big wins were great accomplishments for the team and great memories. "But what makes our team unique," he said, "is that we were real close. We got along well together." Coach Elliott and the tennis team members enjoy looking back on their victories, but they equally enjoy looking toward their future successes. "We had 12 good players last year," Elliott said, "but we were a pretty young team. We should continue to be as good in years to come, if not better." -Angie Mote Front row: Octavio Rivas, Leonardo Bravo, Todd Gilliam, Kevin Wells, Lee Mackey, Kelly Barden.
