Young Team Seeks 3rd in Conference The beginning of the fall semester marked the beginning of another cross country season. The 1990 men's team found themselves in an interesting position. They had a winning tradition to uphold and no returning all-conference runners to help them accomplish the task. As junior Tim Seay put it, "Coming into the season we had a lot of pressure on us because for the past 19 years we were AIC champions." Fortunately the team was not without quality athletes. Coach Ted Lloyd described his men as "a good blend of returning experienced runners and new people." Among those experienced athletes were Ken Edwards, a former All-AIC runner, Kevin Yaws, Greg Richie and Seay. Seay was the only runner from the men's team to qualify for the nationals in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Complimenting the experienced runners was the young blood of freshmen. Among them, Joe Bontrager lived up to his reputation and proved to be a leader among incoming athletes. Nov. 6 marked the end of a Bison tradition as the team finished third in the AIC championship meet. Depsite the loss, Seay felt that the season, overall, was a success. He commented that the team was "very young" and predicted a stronger season next year. Besides, winning wasn't everything. "By the end of the season we saw a team that was really close," said Seay. "We made a lot of new friendships over the season." by Leslie Holland Front Row: Joe Bontrager, Nathan Mills, Kevin Yaws, Greg Richie, Guy Glick.
